Lola's Cafe

14:27:00

Even though it had been quite some time since Sheryl and I visited Lola's Cafe for one of our weekly meet-up after work and I am sure most Singaporeans have already been to or at least heard raves about this popular hipster cafe, I still thought I would want to share about my personal experience here as the food and experience were nothing short of awesome!

Lola's Cafe is very conveniently (especially so for anyone staying along the North-East Line) located opposite Kovan MRT Station, along Simon Road and one can probably identify its location from afar just by pinpointing where the crowd is since there is forever, a long queue waiting right outside the doors of this tiny cafe. It happens for brunch, which the cafe is reputed for, and it is the same case for dinner.

Despite the fact that Sheryl already taken a queue number via the iPad booking system placed at the entrance that will notify us via sms when it is almost our turn way earlier than the usual dinner crowd, we still had to wait for about half an hour before we got seated. But I ain't complaining. Just like every other person in the queue, we know we will be rewarded for our wait ^.^

Bacon & Mushroom Truffle Cream Pasta | $15

Sheryl ordered this as she was, as always, craving for cream pasta. Even though I was never a fan of cream-based pasta, I thought this was rather satisfying as the cream itself was delicious and not at all thick. They were also extremely generous with the bacon, mushroom and truffle but not without ensuring these ingredients complement and not overpower each other.

Confit of Duck Leg with Honey Mustard Sauce | $17

The duck confit was just as tasty and favourable - I love the honey mustard sauce but the meat was a little too dry for my liking and I would prefer the mashed potato to be more exciting. Comparing the two main dishes, I would personally choose to have the Bacon & Mushroom Truffle Cream Pasta instead if I had been given a second chance.

Honey Paprika Crispy Wings | $10

Honey Apple Cake with Vanilla Ice-Cream | $7

We also ordered the crispy wings and a dessert to share, and both were simply a delight to have on our table. The chicken wings were well-marinated and tender, I love how they are sweet, savoury and crispy all at the same time. As for the honey apple cake and vanilla ice-cream, we just wanted to try something new and never did we expect it to be SO GOOD. I would strongly recommend both items!

We certainly had a gratifying meal - everything we ordered were pretty good for one that cost $49 nett since there is no GST or service charge. The service staff were also very polite and helpful, though I thought they probably need to pay more attention to al fresco diners as there were a couple of times we had difficulty asking for the menu, utensils, placing orders and eventually asking for the bill. An amazing food experience nonetheless.

Definitely coming back for more,
Yvette
